We premiered ‘bellyfull of glowsong’ for recorder quartet and fixed electronics by composer Thomas Shorthouse, at the Society of Recorder Players’ annual festival in April 2026. The piece recycles fragments of a Yorkshire folk song into an intensely cyclic, mesmeric, chant-like texture. Thomas writes “bellyfull of glowsong reflects on the importance of the communal musical experience, its almost magical properties to bring people together, and continue musical traditions”.
